How to Build Stairs Up and Down in Going Medieval

Going Medieval has some great things going for it a lot of other colony sims don’t. One of the best features is the ability to build and dig through Z levels. This means you can really make the space work as you have 16 full levels which you can build up, or dig down through. Some may be confused about how you can get to these levels. To get your colonists up or down through these layers, you will have to build stairs.

How to Build Stairs Going Up

The easiest way to use stairs is to build them to move your settlers up. By building a staircase on the ground level, you can create a second story to a building quite easily. To build an ascending staircase, simply do the following:

  • Look at the bottom of the screen
  • Select the BASE building menu. (the one on the far left)
  • Find and select the Staircase object
  • Choose the material you’d like to use in the construction
  • Place the blueprint down
  • Wait for your settlers to build it

If you’re planning a second story you should start with the staircase!

Once you have placed this blueprint down a settler assigned to construction will build it if you have the resources. Once this staircase is built, you will be able to create a second floor which will act as a new story. Remember to leave a space at the top of the staircase so that your settlers cant move off the staircase. Once the staircase if built, you can simply select the flooring and build it on the level of the staircase to create your second story.

(You may need to use the wooden beam as a support for the roof if you have a wide structure.)

How to Build Stairs Going Down in Going Medieval

In this guide, we covered how you can create a basement/cellar in Going Medieval. This also included obviously digging out the cellar and making a staircase going down there. In short, these are the steps you need to make stairs for your settlers to go down:

  • Mine out the area you are going down to
  • Make sure you have at least 3 straight squares in a row
  • Find the stairs object in the BASE building menu
  • Place the blueprint against the regular ground level. (see image below)
  • Your settlers will be able to build the stairs if it is placed against an area they can reach
  • Wait for your settlers to build the stairs
Building stairs going down in going medieval
You need three blocks in a line free from items to place down a staircase

Even though your settlers cannot technically reach down to the bottom floor just yet, they are still able to build the staircase going down, from the top level. If there are any items on the ground underneath the stairs, they will not be able to build there. This is because they cannot get down there in order to move these items. You will have to first make a staircase wherever you possibly can, just to get settlers down to move the items.

Once you have someone down there and able to shift around the items and materials, they are able to move these items and build here.

That basically sums up how to build stairs going both up and down in Going Medieval. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions about Going Medieval content or any other game, don’t hesitate to send through a comment at the bottom! Cheers settlers!
