Fishing is one of the many things you can do to sustain yourself in Cryofall. Sometimes survival doesn’t have to be too strenuous. Some players, (and myself included), like to just sit back, relax and catch some fish. Luckily you can fish in Cryofall! Today I’ll teach you how to get started and how to fish in Cryofall.
Unlock Fishing in Cryofall
Before you can start to catch some slippery fish in Cryofall you’re going to have to learn how to do so first! You’ll be crafting yourself a fishing rod. But first, you’ll have to learn the blueprint. Like other items, you will do this in the technologies tab. You can access the technology screen by pressing the G key on your keyboard. Alternatively, you can select the button from the top of the UI. Once you have the technology screen open, head to tier 2 and select the Fishing section.
Once you choose fishing your screen should open up a menu like the one in the image above. Here, you can unlock the fishing rod and three different types of bait. This is the only fishing related research in the game. Once you have researched all of these items you are able to start fishing. Well, almost. First, you will have to craft your own fishing rod and make your own bait. You can’t expect to catch a fish without bait!
Crafting a Fishing Rod
Once you have learnt the first item in the fishing research area you will be able to craft your own fishing rod. The fishing rod is crafted from the workbench. This means you’ll have to research the workbench before you can craft a rod of your own. Head over to the workbench and right-click to interact with it. Here, you will open up a menu showing everything you can craft here.
Find the fishing rod in the list of items available to craft. Here, you can see the items necessary to craft the fishing rod. To craft the fishing rod you will need the following items:
- 3 Iron Ingot: Created by putting 5 units of Iron Ore into a furnace per ingot.
- 10 Thread: Combine 3 units of Fiber to create a unit of thread
- Wood Planks: Process wood logs into wood planks
Once you have all of these items you are ready to craft your own fishing rod! Take these items to the workbench and press the Craft button on the right hand side of this menu. After the fishing rod is finished it will appear in your inventory. You can even move away from the workbench while the rod is being crafted. Now, equip the fishing rod by dragging it into one of the numbered quickbar slots. You can press the corresponding number or simply left-click the fishing rod to equip it.
How to Get Bait For Fishing
There are three different types of bait that are unlocked through the fishing technologies. These baits are:
- Insect bait
- Cut bait
- Boilee bait
Without a doubt the easiest of these baits to craft is the insect bait. This is because it only requires one ingredient that is relatively easy to get. All of the baits are crafted at the cooking station. You will have to build one if you plan on fishing. For that reason, we will focus on getting insect bait for this guide. To get insect bait you are going to have to go out and search for a particular type of enemy. This enemy is called a Crawler. We are looking for this enemy as when they are defeated you will be able to loot insect meat from their body. Go out and about and look for a Crawler. See the image below for an idea of what you are looking for.
Fight this enemy and loot them to get some insect meat. Now, take this insect meat to the cooking station and you can turn it into insect bait! Great, you’ve acquired your first type of fishing bait.
How to Fish in Cryofall
We’ve finally come to that time we’ve been waiting for. Catching your first fish! With your fishing rod and bait in hand you are ready to go catch something! Equip the fishing rod as shown earlier and press the R key. The R key is used to attach bait to your fishing rod. Otherwise you won’t be able to use it. Head to your nearest fishing spot now that you have some bait on your rod.
Once you have a rod with bait on it you are ready to fish. To begin fishing walk over to a body of water and press the left-mouse button. This will cast out your rod. Now you just have to be patient. Eventually you will have a fish come and take a bite. You known when you have a fish on the line as the float in the water will start to bob. When you see the float bob press the left mouse button again to reel the fish in. If you are successful with your timing you will catch a fish. Congratulations! Sometimes you will miss the fish and the game will inform you the fish got away. Even if you don’t catch a fish 1 unit of bait will be consumed. So try to time your fishing as good as you can.
