Myth of Empires at its base is a game about survival. Once you have mastered the art of survival you can begin to thrive and build your own empire. Before all this can happen, you will have to learn how to feed yourself. Fishing is one of the easiest way to catch a good supply of food.
This guide will show you some of the different ways you can fish in Myth of Empires and give you everything you need to go out and grab them fishies!
Learning the Fishing Crafting Recipes
There are a few different methods that you can use to fish in Myth of Empires. As you level up your character you will unlock more advanced and better fishing equipment. There are two different crating sets which use fishing. The most simple thing you can craft for fishing can be learnt at level 10. Here you will find the Harpoon.
Once you hit level 15, you will be able to learn the next tier of fishing. Here you will unlock an actual fishing rod and some bait. Next comes the fishing master. At 26, you will unlock better bait and be able to extract better fish oil.
You will not be able to craft any fishing gear without first learning the crafting recipe.. That means that you will have to hit level 10 before you are able to do any fishing. To begin with, we will go over how to catch fish with a harpoon.
Myth of Empires How to Fish With Harpoon
As it’s the first form of fishing you will unlock it is probably best to start here. Once you hit level 10 you can unlock the harpoon. Press the I key to open the inventory and move on to the crafting recipes. Unlock the harpoon by double clicking it under the Workbench and Tolls tab. (This should be the default screen when you open up the crating recipes)
Congratulations! You have unlocked your first fishing utensil. now you will have to craft a harpoon! Open up your inventory with the I key and you can hover over the Harpoon recipe to see which items you need. To craft a harpoon for fishing you will need;
- 3 Branch
- 4 Bone
- 1 Straw Rope
Bones can be harvested from defeated animals and Straw Rope can be crafted by combining grass in your inventory. Now that you have the materials, double click on the harpoon to craft one!
Equipping and Using the Harpoon to Fish
Now that you have a harpoon in your inventory you will have to equip it in order to use it. To do this, open up your inventory with the I key. Now, find the harpoon in your inventory and drag it to one of the quick slots at the bottom of the screen. Now, you can press the corresponding number to equip the weapon to your character. You can also use the harpoon to attack enemies like a spear.
Once you have the harpoon equipped you are ready to go! Now, find a nice body of water. It shouldn’t matter which body of water you find. You can find fish in lakes, rivers and the ocean as well. Move yourself to the water and walk along the bank. You should be able to actually see fishing swimming around in the water. All that is left to do now is physically move into the water and attack the fish with your spear. Check out this video:
How to Fish Using a Fishing Rod
Once you’ve hit level 15 you are able to unlock the fishing rod. Unlock this the same way you unlocked the harpoon, through the crafting recipes menu. Once you have unlocked this, you are able to craft it.
Unlocking and Crafting a Fishing Rod
Before you can craft a fishing rod however, you may have noticed you will need copper bars for the crafting of a rod. In order to make copper bars for yourself, you will have to first craft the Architect’s Table and then the Furnace through this. You will then be able to produce copper bars from copper ore.
If you wish to get straight into the fishing action you may be better off joining a guild that is already well established. As copper is a fairly common metal they should have an abundance of this and surely will be able to spare a couple of bars to create a fishing rod….
Crafting and Equipping Bait
Another great thing about this fishing level is the ability to use bait. Fishing bait is necessary to catch fish as is learnt in the whole fishing crafting group. To craft it you just need to find a locust and a piece of grass! Easy. Once you have the bait simply drag it onto the fishing rod to equip it.
With fishing rod and a bait in hand you are ready to go out and catch some fish with a rod!
Catching Fish With a Fishing Rod
Now that we have a fishing rod with bait attached we are ready to go and catch some fish! First, go find a nice water source. This could be a lake, river or the ocean. You don’t have to physically be able to see fish in the water to catch them with the rod. You just have to cast out into the water and wait for a bite.
Cast you line out into the water by pressing the left mouse button and releasing whenever you’d like. The distance at which you cast is determined by how much you let the bar will up before releasing. Now that you have your bait in the water you just have to wait for a fish to come along and take a bite!
Once a fish is on the line you it will look like in the image above. You will see the end of the line getting pulled into the water. Once you have a fish on the line you can press the Q key or the right-mouse button. Your character will reel in their catch and a message will be displayed showing what type of fish was caught!
How to Cook Fish in Myth of Empires
Now that you have some freshly caught fish it’s time to cook it up. You can cook the fish on the basic campfire that you should have unlocked at the start of the game. First, craft a campfire and set it down. You will also want to put some form of fuel in there.
Once you have a hot campfire approach it and press the E key to open the inventory. Now, place the fish inside the inventory of the campfire. In the top area of the campfire inventory you can see everything you can currently craft at the campfire. Drag your fish into the campfire inventory then you will be able to craft the grilled fish.
