The oil lantern is a great tool for lighting up the way in the darkness in Cryofall. When night falls your view can get a little short. by using a light source such as the oil lantern, your character will be able to see further in the night. One of the things that aren’t explained in the game however, is how to refill the oil lantern when it is empty. I am going to run through a short guide on how to refill your oil lantern in Cryofall.

How to Get an Oil Lamp
The first step in refilling an oil lamp is obviously going to be obtaining one to begin with! Before you can even create your very own oil lamp you are going to have to unlock the ability to do so.. As with all of the other things you can craft in the game, the oil lamp research blueprint has to be unlocked. To learn how to make this blueprint, open up the technology screen using the G key. You will now see some different groups. To unlock the oil lamp click on the tier 1 research area and choose the industry tree. You will see a bunch of different research items.
The research to craft the oil lamp is located at the bottom left of this tree. In order to learn one of these blueprints yo will have to learn the recipe that came before it. This means to learn how to craft an oil lamp you’ll have to learn the 3 recipes that come before it. These are the workbench, furnace and glass recipes. Once they have been learnt you can unlock the oil lamp and are now able to craft one.
Crafting an Oil Lamp
Now you have the capabilities to craft an oil lamp. You are just going to have to go through some steps in order to make one and gather materials. You are basically going to have to make all of the technologies that came before it. For example, you will need a workbench in order to actually put the oil lamp together. You will also need both raw glass and copper ingots in order to make the oil lamp. This means you’ll have to build a workbench and furnace as well.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you’ll have to gather all of the materials you will need. This means you’ll have to go out and mine some copper. Once you have the copper, process it in the furnace. You’ll also need some sand an ash. I will leave two links below this paragraph. One of these is a guide on how to get ash. The other is a guide to the map. This will show you where you can find some beach near your location. Beach is the best place to find sand in Cryofall, which you will need for glass.
Putting it All Together
I will create a little step-by-step guide in order to show how you can make an oil lamp from nothing. So to make an oil lamp from scratch:
- Learn the crafting blueprints all the way down to the oil lamp
- Build a Workbench and Furnace
- Go out and collect some; Copper ore, sand, wood to burn (preferably twigs)
- Melt the copper into bars and take out the ash as byproduct as well
- Use the sand and ash to make glass in the forge
- Create a bottle with the glass at the workbench
- Take your copper and bottle to the workbench and craft an oil lamp
To begin with your oil lamp is going to be completely out of fuel. Luckily the next part of this guide will focus on how to fuel and refuel your oil lamp.
How to Refill the Oil Lamp in Cryofall
In order to refill the oil lamp in Cryofall you will have to create some camp fuel. You can create this by taking some animal fats to the campfire. Melt animal fat into camp fuel and take this into your inventory. With the oil lamp equipped press the R key to refill your oil lamp with camp fuel. Each unit of the camp fuel will refill a third of your oil lamp. It will take 3 units to get it to 99% full.
For every 2 units of animal fat you use, you will get one unit of camp fuel for your oil lamp. Keep that in mind when you are out hunting animals and are taking inventory space. Some animals won’t drop any animal fats at all when they are defeated. Some animals that do drop animal fat are: Boars, turtles, wolves.
So that’s all there is to crafting your own oil lamp and refilling it using camp fuel. If you have any more questions or comments leave them down below. Cheers!
