Exploration is one of the key mechanics in Necesse. From collecting new and exciting materials, to progressing to different places. At some point if you want to progress through the game you will have to travel off that main island!
This guide will show you how to travel around the world of Necesse and particularly how to get from island to island. It will also show you how to craft map items and discover new lands before you get there.
How to Travel to a New Island in Necesse
To travel to a different island from the one you are on all you have to do is use a boat to sail to the edge of the map. Once you have reached the edge of your map a button will appear at the top of the screen. The will read “Travel *whichever direction you sailed to*”, for example for me it reads Travel East.
This doesn’t necessarily mean i have to travel directly east. Once I have selected the travel button the map will appear showing all of the islands surrounding the player. You can now pick an island to travel to. For example when you travel east you can still decide to travel to the island north of the one you are on, but not the one to the west of your original location.
Crafting A Boat
As you will be travelling over the water it is within your best interest to craft a boat for this. Whilst it is possible to swim all the way out and get to a new location, the boat is easy to craft and allows you to travel a lot faster. You can craft the boat just from your main inventory by getting together 8 wood logs.
As it reads in the description in the image above, you can either place the boat directly down in the water like any other piece of furniture, or place it into the mount slot of your character.
Using the Mount Slot
The mount slot is the slot in the bottom right of your Equip screen. (The little menu next to your inventory.) You can equip or unequipped the boat once it is in this slot, by using the F key. This will make it quicker to get on and off the boat. You can only use your boat mount if your character is in the water.
How to Find New Islands in Necesse
You may think that travelling around Necesse looking for specific islands is getting a little bit time-consuming. The things is that if you are looking for a specific island say, you need to find a dungeon entrance. Good news! You can discover island types with a craftable item!
If you’ve been playing for a while you probably have a few Map Fragments already. These items can be used to craft maps! Two of the items that you can craft without the use of any work stations are maps in fact.
Crafting and Using Maps from Map Fragments
There are three types of islands that can be discovered by using maps in Necesse. These three are; Villages, Dungeons and Pirate islands. Village islands and Dungeon islands can be found from the start of the game. Maps to find pirate dungeons can only be crafted on a Demonic Workstation later in the game.
Decide whether you are looking for a village or dungeon and then craft the map for that! Each map will cost 2 map fragments each and will find 1 island. Craft the map you would like and drag it into your inventory. You can check out the video below on how to use maps and map fragments.
As you can see you just have to use the item once it has been crafted. Once it has been used, a new island location will be available from the world map. (The one that opens with the N key) You can use this method so you don’t have to go sailing around the world to find one specific map!
You can get map fragments as loot from defeating enemies such as zombies.
