In any colony the most important part is generally the colonists. Medieval sim Going Medieval is no exception to this rule. As you start to expand and grow your colony you will have more an more settlers. These settlers will all need a place to sleep. This is a very important part of your colony as unhappy settlers means a quick end to your game! So how do you build more beds? Read on.
How to Build a Bed
To build a bed in Going Medieval, you will have to access the Furniture building menu. You can do this by either selecting the icon at the bottom left which looks like a chair, or pressing the F3 key. This will open up the furniture menu and show you all of the furniture you can currently build. To begin with, you will only have access to the Hay Sleeping Spot. To build this, select it from the menu. Now, place the blueprint somewhere in your colony. This can by place outside but your colonists will be a lot happier if they are sleeping indoors.
Once you have acquired 50 units of hay, once of your settlers will build the sleeping spot. Make sure that at least one of your settlers is assigned to build in the JOBS menu. You can harvest hay from long grass once it is ripe. Now, your settlers will have a place to sleep. Remember, each settler will need a bed, otherwise their mood will deteriorate and they can ignore their responsibilities or even leave the colony. Settlers will pick their beds automatically. You cannot assign a settler to any specific bed.
How to Unlock Better Beds
You settlers won’t be happy staying on a bundle of hay forever! Luckily you can research and build actual beds. This is all done through the Research panel once you’ve built a research table. You can check out this guide if you’re new to research in Going Medieval. Now that you have research and know how to unlock things, you should find the topic Furniture. Unlock this and everything that came before it. Once you have the furniture research you will be able to create real beds for your settlers!
Once this is unlocked you can begin to build the Wooden Hay Bed whenever you’d like. This will also require some wood along with the hay in order to build.
Building Beds and Creating Rooms
To build these freshly unlocked beds, use the same method as with the hay sleeping spots. You should find the new wooden hay beds within the furniture building menu. As with the sleeping spots you can try to put them inside as the settlers will be more comfortable. Another thing to keep in mind is that you create specific rooms for sleeping in. There are two kinds of bedrooms in Going Medieval; BEDROOM and SHARED BEDROOM. By turning a room into either a bedroom or shared bedroom, your settlers will gain an even greater mood boost when they rest there.
As you can see in the image above, this settler has gained a small mood boost. This is because they slept in a room specifically designed as a bedroom. You can see all the different types of rooms you can create and their requirements by pressing the V key to open up the rooms overlay. Now, hover your cursor over each colored block. This will show you what you need to make each room. Here are the requirements for making bedrooms:
Shared Bedroom: Must have: at least 2 wooden hay beds or sleeping spots.
Cannot have: Any workstations or shrines
Bedroom: Must have: only 1 bed in the room
Cannot Have: Any workstation or shrines
If you follow these requirements you should be able to make your settlers some nice comfortable bedrooms! Don’t worry too much if you don’t have the space or resources for every settler to have a bedroom. They are quite happy to sleep in shared accommodation. By creating rooms you will improve the general mood or your entire colony. This can be great when you really want to get a lot of big jobs done.
